A native Tennessean, Dr. Harpel received her BS from Middle Tennessee State University and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee in 1982, where she received the American Association of Feline Practitioners senior student award. After graduation, she returned to her family home and launched a successful equine ambulatory practice serving horse owners in Clarksville and surrounding counties for 21 years. She was also employed by the Department of Defense, providing small animal medicine and surgery coverage for military personnel and retirees at Fort Campbell.
Dr. Harpel has a special interest in feline medicine and surgery, behavior, pediatrics and geriatrics. She has participated in a variety of professional and civic organizations over the years, including the following: American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Veterinary Medical Association, Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association. She is a past president of the Tennessee Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. She is a graduate of Leadership Clarksville (2003) and Citizens Police Academy. Dr. Harpel has been an enthusiastic trail rider and cyclist, as well as a breeder owner handler of champion Cairn terriers. She also loves reading, art, poetry and gardening. She makes her home in Clarksville with her husband Phil and a menagerie of dogs, cats, horses, birds and fish.
